One of the most common questions I get asked is "when should I book my newborn photos?" It's a great question, because timing really does matter.
The Ideal Window: 7-14 Days
The first two weeks are often called the "golden window" for newborn photography. Here's why:
- Babies are super sleepy – they curl up beautifully
- They're still used to being curled up in the womb
- They haven't discovered fighting sleep yet
- Skin is still perfectly smooth
This doesn't mean older babies can't be photographed – they absolutely can. But these early days offer specific poses that get harder as babies grow.
What If My Baby Is Older?
Don't worry. I've photographed babies up to 12 weeks, and every age has its own beauty. Older babies are more alert, give gorgeous smiles, and have their own personality shining through.
The session will just be a bit different – we'll capture awake shots and those lovely interaction photos rather than the deep sleeps poses.
When to Book
Book early! I can only take a limited number of newborns each month, and spots go fast – especially in summer and around Christmas.
During pregnancy is ideal. That way we lock in your due date, and then confirm the exact time once baby arrives.
What If Baby Comes Early or Late?
No problem. We build in flexibility. If baby arrives early, we might need to move the session a day or two. If baby is late (which happens!), we adjust accordingly.
The session doesn't have to be exact – we work with your baby, not the other way around.
