Thinking about booking a newborn session? Brilliant choice. Those first weeks go so fast, and having professional photos to look back on is something you'll treasure forever.
Here are my top tips to help you get the most from your newborn photography session in Hartlepool.
Book Early, But Don't Panic
Ideally, book your session during pregnancy. Newborn spots fill up quickly, especially in summer and around Christmas. But even if baby is already here, get in touch – we can usually find a slot.
The best time for photos is 7-14 days old. Babies are sleepier and curl up so nicely. But honestly? Every age is beautiful. Don't stress if you're past that window.
Feed Baby Before You Come
A full baby is a sleepy, happy baby. Feed baby just before arriving, and bring extra milk. We take breaks during the session anyway, but starting with a full tummy helps.
Don't worry if baby won't settle straight away. That's completely normal. We have plenty of time, and patience is part of what I do.
What to Wear
For parents, keep it simple. Whites, creams, soft pastels work best. Avoid bold patterns or logos – you want to be looking at your baby, not your clothes.
For baby, don't stress – I've got wraps, outfits, and props ready. Just dress baby in something soft and easy to take off.
Bring the Basics
- Extra milk (bottle or expressed)
- Pacifier if you use one
- Nappies and wipes
- Comfort items for you – the session is 2-3 hours
Relax – You've Got This
The most common question I get is "what if my baby won't cooperate?" Here's the secret: they don't have to. That's my job.
We go at baby's pace. If they need a feed, we feed. If they need a cuddle, we cuddle. There's no rushing, no pressure. The best photos happen when everyone is relaxed.
